These series of photographs examine how one’s own subjectivity is under construction as one simultaneously takes part in the creation of culture through mimicry. They are pointing towards social systems that dictate behaviour and illustrate by surreal dislocations, the ways in which social decorum forces individuals to contort and adjust themselves in order to be accepted. The play with the boundary between private and public is made tangible here. Yet the photographs do not aim at unveiling some bare individual imperfection, neither do they judge the ideals adopted, but instead point towards the area where personal needs and experiences can no longer be distinguished from collective ones.
